Leaking rad need new one fitting
Answer from tradesperson:
So let me tell the full story of this job following this insulting and inaccurate “feedback” The client hired me to change a large radiator that was 42 years old, corroded and leaking on the carpet! I removed the old one and installed the new one without issue. However after trying to fill the system that’s when the problem started. It’s a 40 year old gravity system with no air vents (except one under the floorboards upstairs - really useful) no drain off by the boiler as should have been installed and “controls” that are totally useless and a pump that was fitted in 1979 and sounded like Concorde. I spent three hours trying to vent the system to no avail. The system is “insured” and an engineer came out and said it needs power flushing. No way! Not on a system where one rad has already pimples and the remaining radiators are from the 70s!!!! I returned on the Tuesday, drained the system and attempted to refill it. This time it filled but wouldn’t heat up. Great - an air lock I thought. It’s almost impossible to access the tank and no chance of back filing it on mains due to old sludged up system. A family friend came and changed the pump and reversed the flow direction (dodgy) !!! Having done a pile of free work to “sort the heating system out” which was never part of the job- we parted on amicable terms so to receive this poisonous feedback is an total insult!
