Stephen did a fantastic job. The project was to refurbish the kitchen which involved removing an old chimney that was taking up too much room, completely replacing the electrics, replacing the ceiling and floor, replastering the walls and fitting the new kitchen. The house is 150+ years old and had been badly renovated in the 1970s so there was lots of scope for nasty surprises. The first win was he helped us negotiate a much better price from the kitchen supplier saving several thousand pounds. Removing the chimney involved work through the entire height of the house which was done with surprising little disruption. He dealt with the inevitable problems without fuss and always seems to know the correct way to deal with an issue. He is also always on site and sets high standards for his team's work. They made such good progress we asked them to also refurbish one of the bathrooms at the same time. We are delighted with the result and are already discussing other projects that he can do for us.

I would highly recommend Stephen. We realised that building works that had been done some years ago by a different builder had not been signed off by building control and we had been given a list of work that needed to be done asap. Stephen visited quickly to give a quote and was also able to pick up on issues that building control had missed, saving us from needing multiple visits by the inspector. His work was of the highest quality and prices fair. Thank you Stephen!!

Stephen and his team completed a large renovation and extension of our house. It included a loft extension, open-planning of the living room/kitchen, installation of a new kitchen, and 2.5 new bathrooms. Stephen and his team were a pleasure to work with. Stephen knows his trade and spotted potential issues and improvements where other builders who came to quote did not. We hired him based on his professionalism and skill and were not disappointed. The work was completed to a very high standard, on time and with few surprises - which Stephen communicated clearly about. We are very happy with the result and the aftercare received from Stephen and would definitely hire him again.

Stephen is a builder with a good understanding of structure and construction. He is used to doing bigger projects than mine and completed this job in less than ten days. He is a carpenter as well as a builder and did a brilliant job. I had previously spoken to at least four builders who were not able to provide me with an explanation of what they would do. One established construction firm, having already quoted, pulled out without explanation when I was ready to go ahead, even though i had provided them with structural engineering drawings. I found Stephen through mybuilder.com He visited the site at least 3 times to look it over, decide on his materials and work out his plan of action. He impressed me by explaining what he would do, problems that might be revealed druing building and how he would tackle them. He inspected the windows which I had bought from another supplier a year previous, Stephen got in touch with the supplier and was able to get them to deliver some componenents that they had missed out, asap. All this careful preparation paid off in that the building work was completed ahead of schedule. He even fixed the join between the roof and the roof gutter which was leaking and finished off the building work by protecting it from water damage in the future. I am very pleased with the smart new lead covered lintel he created from hardwood to replace the original moulded design.

If you are looking for a caring and conscientious builder then look no further than Stephen. Not only is he on your side for your project and budget, he gets the job done with absolute attention to detail. He works incredibly hard and is not satisfied till you, the client, are happy. He has a photographic, encyclopaedic memory for all things building and structural. He, with his extensive experience, is worth more on your project than any architect plans or drawings. Not only is he damned good at what he does, he’s polite and thorough. He also has a fantastic team that he keeps a close eye on at all times. There are no loud radios or requests for coffee. His team have a fixed break/lunch, bring their own supplies and I’m embarrassed to admit, leave your house tidier and cleaner than when they arrived - even when doing excavation/structural work! I offer only one word of caution, once Stephen and team are in, you won’t want them to leave, and you will start asking him to do all those other building jobs you never knew you wanted done! You will be very fortunate if you can secure him for your project. You can complete confidence in him, his team and their work.

My brother and I met with many builders when looking to complete our project, a full renovation of our house and loft conversion. When we met with Stephen it was clear from the start that he has huge experience in the industry and we both felt an instance confidence in him, Stephen is a quiet man that lets the quality of his work do the talking. Stephen and his team carried out a complete renovation of the property including stripping out, structural steel installation, new roof, fitting of windows & doors, plastering, decorating, electrical rewiring, plumbing & heating, all carried out with no fuss and to a very high standard. We needed a builder that we could trust with our project as we both work full time and could not be on site every day to supervise the work. Stephen took charge of the project and his communication was excellent, always making a phone call to check any queries and to let us know how things were progressing. He was also happy to suggest changes and improvements to our plans with great vision for what would improve the end result. Minor mistakes were made during the project, but Stephen was always honest and takes a real pride in the work that carries his name, so things were always put right and with minimum fuss. Overall we feel very lucky to have found such an honest, hard working and reliable builder, we would not hesitate to recommend Stephen and if we ever carry out another project, he will always be the first man we would go to for a quote.

We engaged Stephen and his team after first having spoken to previous clients (and got very positive feedback) and having visited a previous job which was very impressive. We also got a really good sense meeting Stephen for the first time that he knew what he was talking about and was very open and honest from the off. Our loft conversion was a little bit different to the average build, but Stephen relished the challenge and rose to it, along with the usual unforeseen challenges along the way with relative ease. Stephen and his team are thoroughly professional, trustworthy and friendly and made what is quite an intrusive process for a young family as easy for us as they possibly could. Stephen is a proud professional builder with very high standards and always keen to offer advice on how to improve upon things and not squander opportunities, which we were very grateful for. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have come across Stephen and wholeheartedly recommend him.

We initially hired Steve and his team to re-tile our roof and remove and replace the exterior rendering. We were so impressed with the work that we then hired him to build us an extension. He is an excellent, reliable, punctual and friendly builder. He even came up with suggestions that we liked that improved the original architect's plans. He is very good with people - particularly building inspectors. We had no problem getting the job signed off and they were very impressed with his standards.

S&S Builders have earlier this year built the extension to the rear of our terraced house. We extended out by 3 metres and Stephen was a significant part of the success we have seen. Stephen's structural knowledge was excellent ans we felt very safe in his hands. His communication was brilliant, I found him a pleasure to deal with and the whole process was made a lot less stressful thanks to his experience and his input throughout. The work has been carried out to a very high quality, he's a lovely friendly and approachable man and we are delighted that we chose to work with him, as are many others on our street!
