Types of services offered by TV aerial installers in Livingston

Not sure whether you need a repair, a replacement, or something else entirely? Aerial problems can have a few different causes, and the right fix depends on your property, your local signal strength, and the condition of your existing setup.

Here are the most common services Livingston based TV aerial installers can help with:

  • New aerial installation: Fitting a digital TV aerial to your roof, loft, or wall for reliable Freeview reception. A professional will assess your location's signal strength and select the right aerial type, grouped, wideband, or high-gain, rather than fitting a standard model that may underperform at your address.

  • Aerial repairs: Fixing or replacing a damaged, loose, or storm-hit aerial to restore your signal. In many cases, a repair or realignment is all that's needed rather than a full replacement. A professional installer will tell you which is the better option for your needs rather than defaulting to the more expensive one.

  • Signal boosting: Installing amplifiers or repositioning your aerial to improve weak or patchy reception. Before recommending amplification, a professional will test signal strength with a meter to confirm that boosting is the right solution rather than masking a deeper problem.

  • Satellite dish installation: Fitting and aligning a satellite dish for Freesat, Sky, or foreign satellite services. Installers can also reposition or upgrade an existing dish that's no longer performing well.

  • Additional TV points: If you want to watch TV in multiple rooms without running a separate aerial to each, an installer can fit additional TV points connected to your main aerial via a signal splitter or distribution amplifier. This is almost always more cost-effective when done at the same time as a new installation or repair.

Not sure exactly what you need? Post your job on MyBuilder, compare quotes from local aerial installers, read reviews from past customers, and find the right person to sort your setup of TV aerials in Livingston.

What to ask TV aerial professionals in Livingston before hiring

Before you go ahead and hire, asking the right questions upfront means you'll get a clearer picture of who you're dealing with, and what you're actually paying for.

Are you CAI registered?

CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) registration is the clearest indicator of professional competence in this trade. A registered installer has met a minimum standard of training and is bound by a code of practice.

It's a quick question that separates professionals from those with no formal accreditation.

What type of aerial do you recommend for my property, and why?

Not every aerial is right for every home. Your location, the direction of the nearest transmitter, and whether you're in a weak signal area can all affect what's best. A knowledgeable installer should be able to explain whether a grouped, wideband, or high-gain aerial is appropriate and why.

Will you carry out a signal test before and after installation?

A professional should test signal strength at your location using a signal meter, not simply point the aerial in the general direction of the transmitter.

Ask whether signal testing is included and what levels they'd expect to achieve at your address.

Can you also install additional TV points while you're here?

If you want TV in more than one room, having extra points fitted at the same time as the aerial installation saves a return visit and is usually more cost-effective. It's worth asking even if you haven't considered it yet.

Can you provide references from past clients in Livingston?

Speaking to a previous customer, particularly one in a similar property or with a similar signal situation, gives you a much better sense of what to expect than a profile alone. A confident installer will have no hesitation providing this.

Do you have public liability insurance?

This is particularly important for aerial installers, who regularly work at height on roofs and ladders. Public liability insurance protects you if anything goes wrong, accidental damage to your roof, guttering, or property during the job. Ask to see proof before work begins.

Can you provide a written quote, and is it fixed?

Ask for a clear breakdown covering the aerial and equipment, cabling, labour, any additional TV points, and whether VAT is included. Some jobs throw up surprises once the installer gets a proper look, old cabling, tricky access, or a mast that needs replacing, so it's worth asking upfront whether the quote covers everything or whether extras could arise.

Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

It's worth asking upfront what guarantee the installer offers on their work, and what the process is if a problem crops up afterwards. On labour, a year is a fair baseline. Most aerial equipment also comes with its own manufacturer's warranty covering the parts themselves.

FAQs: TV aerial installation and repair services in Livingston

How long does a TV aerial installation take?

Most standard aerial installations take between one and two hours, depending on the type of property and where the aerial needs to be mounted.

More complex jobs - like multi-room setups, additional TV points, or tricky roof access - can take half a day or longer.

Do I need planning permission to install a TV aerial in Livingston?

In most cases, no. TV aerials usually fall under permitted development, so you won't need planning permission. However, if you live in a listed building or a conservation area in Livingston, it's worth checking with your local council before going ahead.

How do I know if my aerial needs repairing or replacing?

Common signs include a pixelated picture, channels dropping out, or no signal at all. Sometimes a repair is enough, tightening a loose fitting or replacing a damaged cable.

But if your aerial is old or storm-damaged, a full replacement is often the better long-term option. A TV aerial installer in Livingston can carry out a signal test and advise on the right course of action.

Should I look for a CAI-registered installer in Livingston?

Yes, where possible. CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) registration is the main professional credential in this trade. It indicates a minimum standard of competence and means the installer is bound by a code of practice. It's not a legal requirement, but it's the most useful qualification to check for when comparing aerial installers in Livingston.

Can I get a TV aerial installed in my loft instead of on the roof?

Yes, loft aerials are a popular option. They're cheaper to fit and less exposed to the weather. That said, signal strength can be weaker depending on your area, the direction of the transmitter, and the materials in your roof. Your installer will be able to tell you whether a loft aerial is a viable choice for your property in Livingston.

Can a TV aerial installer help with poor signal in Livingston?

Yes. Poor signal doesn't always mean you need a new aerial - sometimes it's down to positioning, outdated cabling, or interference from nearby buildings. An installer in Livingston can run a signal test, identify the cause, and recommend the right fix rather than automatically replacing the aerial.

Can a TV aerial installer also set up additional TV points?

Yes. If you want to watch TV in more than one room, an installer can fit additional TV points connected to your main aerial via a signal splitter or distribution amplifier.

It's usually more cost-effective to have this done at the same time as any installation or repair work - so it's worth mentioning when you post your job on MyBuilder, so installers in Livingston can include it in their quote from the start.
