Are groundworkers required to have insurance?

Groundworkers are not legally required to have insurance, but it’s highly recommended. Most groundworkers near you will hold public liability insurance to protect against damage to property or injury caused during the job. Always ask for proof of insurance before hiring.

Do groundworkers offer guarantees on their work?

Yes, many groundworkers near you will provide a guarantee on their work. This typically lasts from a few months to several years, depending on the project. Make sure you understand what’s covered, such as defects or issues due to poor workmanship.

What should I ask a groundworker before hiring them?

Before hiring a groundworker near you, ask about their insurance, previous projects, and approach to site preparation. Discuss timelines, costs, and payment terms, and request references or examples of similar work.

How much deposit should I pay a groundworker?

It’s normal to pay around **10% to 20%** of the total cost upfront, but always agree on this in writing before work begins. Avoid paying large deposits and ensure there’s a clear contract outlining expectations.

How can I check if a groundworker near me is a good fit?

Start by reviewing their MyBuilder profile, where you can see photos of past jobs, customer feedback, and business details. It’s also worth meeting them in person to discuss the project and see how they plan to approach your site.

Couldn’t be more happy with the work David did for me. He gave me a day rate quote inclusive of digger, diesel, delivery and the work itself, which is exactly what I asked for. He arrived on time, and dug out the 40m trench in record time - it turned out perfectly. Instead of leaving early, he used the remaining time in the day to do some other excavation jobs which saved me a lot of time, money and effort!! David’s an honest and skilled guy and I will be using him again for outdoor projects in the future. Don’t hesitate to hire him.

I found Andrew to be very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble. His quotes were itemised so you could see exactly what you were paying for. He was punctual and reliable and responded to emails promptly. Andrew and Charlie worked extremely hard in some bad weather clearing away deep rooted shrubs and large amounts of soil and breaking up an old concrete path to lay a tegular block paved driveway with drainage channel and put up fencing and Simon also helped with removing and replacing the front fences. They were clean and tidy workers and very careful not to damage any underground pipes and paid meticulous attention to detail and cleared all the rubbish away and the job was completed to a very high standard at a good price. We have received lots of compliments from neighbours and passers by saying how good the work looks and we've also had comments saying what good workers they were. We would certainly reccomend Andrew and his team as we are very pleased with the work they have done for us it just makes the house look so much nicer now. Thanks Andrew, Charlie and Simon. Regards Mr & Mrs Hopley
