Are groundworkers required to have insurance?

Groundworkers are not legally required to have insurance, but it’s highly recommended. Most groundworkers near you will hold public liability insurance to protect against damage to property or injury caused during the job. Always ask for proof of insurance before hiring.

Do groundworkers offer guarantees on their work?

Yes, many groundworkers near you will provide a guarantee on their work. This typically lasts from a few months to several years, depending on the project. Make sure you understand what’s covered, such as defects or issues due to poor workmanship.

What should I ask a groundworker before hiring them?

Before hiring a groundworker near you, ask about their insurance, previous projects, and approach to site preparation. Discuss timelines, costs, and payment terms, and request references or examples of similar work.

How much deposit should I pay a groundworker?

It’s normal to pay around **10% to 20%** of the total cost upfront, but always agree on this in writing before work begins. Avoid paying large deposits and ensure there’s a clear contract outlining expectations.

How can I check if a groundworker near me is a good fit?

Start by reviewing their MyBuilder profile, where you can see photos of past jobs, customer feedback, and business details. It’s also worth meeting them in person to discuss the project and see how they plan to approach your site.

Mark carried out, managed and coordinated a large house remodelling project, involving all aspects of the building work, such as the groundworks, extensions, and landscaping. The workmanship is of an incredibly high-standard by following the best practices, whilst always working as part of a team. Very professional and completely reliable because they focus on one job/ project at a time, so trust and confidence in the team is undoubted. All this whilst being incredibly fair on price, therefore, GSC offer outstanding value. I couldn't recommend Mark and the team highly enough and we'll be working on many more projects to come for many more years.

It was freezing cold, with a heavy frost, but Matthew still turned up on time. He had confirmed our appointment with me the day before. He is friendly, but professional, and very polite. I am a pensioner, living alone, but he made me feel comfortable and confident right from booking him to come and quote for the job, through to it's completion. He listened carefully to what my vision for the finished project would look like. He installed metal railings along the boundary of my front garden for me. He consulted me at crucial points during the installation and was working constantly with no slacking off despite the bitter weather he was out in. He offered solutions to hiccups encountered and was well prepared with the correct tools needed to complete the job, having even got a special fixative that would cure in the minus temperature he was working in. All this and charging a very competitive price too! I have no hesitation in recommending Matt's building services.

Zak and Paul are extremely hard working and polite. They broke up all the concrete the way I wanted, making sure the area was brought down level with the rest of the garden. The site was left cleared and swept. Zak also replaced my storm drain cover and frame at the front of the property, once again making everything clean and tidy. I would highly recommend them to everyone. I plan to use them again when I have tarmac laid for parking
