What should I ask a gas engineer before hiring them?

Before hiring a gas engineer, ask about their **experience, qualifications, and insurance coverage**. Ask about the timeline for your project, the estimated costs, and the payment structure. It's also wise to request references from previous clients and ensure they are familiar with the specific gas work required.

Are gas engineers required to have insurance?

Gas engineers are not legally required to have insurance, but it is highly recommended. **Most professional gas engineers will have public liability insurance to cover any damage to property or injury caused during work**. Always **ask for proof of insurance** before hiring a gas engineer.

Do gas engineers offer guarantees on their work?

Yes, gas engineers **typically offer a guarantee on their work**. This can range from a few months to several years, depending on the scope of the project. It’s essential to check the terms of the guarantee, which **should cover any defects or issues arising from poor workmanship**.

How can I verify a gas engineer’s qualifications?

You can verify a gas engineer’s qualifications by checking their Gas Safe registration. **Only Gas Safe engineers are legally allowed to carry out gas work in the UK**. Ask for their registration number and verify it on the Gas Safe Register website.

How much deposit should I pay a gas engineer?

It’s common to **pay a deposit of around 10% to 20% of the total project cost upfront**. However, this **should be agreed upon in writing before any work begins**. Be cautious of gas engineers who ask for large upfront payments, and make sure you have a clear contract in place to protect both parties.

Came straight away and fixed the issue. He had a difficult job due to the location of the boiler but managed to find the fault was with the expansion vessel, drain it and recharge it so the pressure didn’t drop. He was polite and was able to explain clearly what the problem is and what and why he was doing what he was doing. I would highly recommend Dujon. Please note that although he’s new to My Builder he’s not new to the trade.

Really happy with the job Steve did for me. Really great communication from start to finish and cleaned up too.. I now have a cupboard converted to a laundry room and an outside tap so no need to connect to the kitchen tap and trail a hose pipe through the house. And freed up the kitchen to have my dishwasher back, so no more swapping the dishwasher and washing machine over.. Highly recommend Steve, and have already shared his info.

Wouldn’t hesitate at all to recommend James, we are so glad we have found him, we are currently going through a large extension, James is smart in his appearance, punctual, reliable, professional and very tidy, when I saw he even had his own hoover I wished he done every trade! He started changing the boiler flue from vertical to a horizontal and is now coming back to fit our entire new bathroom suite, radiators and remove an old radiator and cap it off. In the next couple of years we will also be changing the other radiators and getting a new kitchen so will be keeping hold of his number for them too. James is very refreshing and professional from the first interaction down to the invoice and also reasonably priced. Don’t hesitate, you’ll never have to look for a plumber again 👍🏼

As many of the other reviews, Ben did a great job in getting our heating up and running after finding out the boiler didn't work the day before moving in! Ben came the following morning and sorted it. The fan needed replacing and the gas was capped off by the builders which he identified quickly. Very friendly and professional. Would definitely call him up again if we needed any more gas works.
