Question 1

Does it cost significantly more to hire a gardener in Harrow than elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Outer London rates are higher than most of the UK, typically 15-25% above comparable towns outside the M25. Within that, Harrow is generally more affordable than inner London boroughs, and there are enough gardeners working across the HA postcodes to keep pricing competitive.

Question 2

How do I know if a Harrow gardener is worth hiring before I commit?

Accepted Answer

Start with their MyBuilder profile. Reviews from previous customers are the most useful thing to look at, not just the score, but what people have actually said.

Consistent comments about arriving on time, communicating clearly, and leaving the garden in good order are far more informative than a handful of vague five-star entries. Photos of completed work help too, particularly if they show gardens in Harrow or similar outer London properties of the same age and type as yours.

Question 3

Can Harrow gardeners help with overgrown gardens?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it's one of the more common requests across the borough. Gardens that have been left through a change of ownership, a period of ill health, or simply years of minimal attention are something local gardeners deal with regularly.

The first step is usually a clearance. Removing overgrowth, cutting back what's unmanageable, and getting a clear picture of what's actually there before deciding what to do next.

Question 4

Will a gardener in Harrow remove the green waste?

Accepted Answer

Some do, some don't, and it's worth establishing before any work starts. Gardeners who include waste removal in their quote will typically either take it away themselves or arrange a skip. If they're removing it themselves, check that they hold a registered waste carrier licence, this means the waste is being disposed of legally rather than fly-tipped.

Question 5

What's the best time of year to hire a gardener in Harrow for a bigger project?

Accepted Answer

Late summer and early autumn tend to offer the best combination of gardener availability and good conditions for larger work, clearances, lawn renovations, and new planting.

Demand eases from its spring peak, and turf laid in September or October in a London borough typically establishes well before winter. Spring is the busiest period for most gardeners in Harrow, so if you're planning something significant it's worth getting in touch through MyBuilder a few weeks earlier than you think you need to.
