I retired from the Royal Navy in 2025, after serving for 30 years, and decided to strike out in a different direction, calling on skills I developed before my naval career working as a painter/decorator for 4 years during my University holiday periods. I maintained these skills throughout my period of service, by decorating every home I’ve ever lived in, as well as assisting my parents, siblings and now my children. My naval career provided me with experience in project management, operational planning and safety, which I have taken forward into my painting and decorating business, which has now been running for a year. However, the most important qualities I learnt, and pride myself upon, are: 1. Turning up on time. 2. Paying attention to detail. 3. Communicating promptly to prevent misunderstanding. 4.
