We recently bought a 100 year old, terraced house in Reading and it was un-livable. The kitchen was small and cramped, the floors were rotten and damp and the decor was outdated. It needed a complete make-over and revamp to release the wasted space. During the first stage, John managed the removal of a two floor chimney and two supporting walls to create an open plan kitchen living room diner. He opened up the back wall for some double doors to the garden and bricked up the old door and window openings. The new brickwork seamlessly blends into the existing wall and the finish was exquisite! The rotten floor was ripped up and treated, then a solid block and beam floor was installed. He levelled off 3 different floor heights and did a great screed job. He then designed and laid a unique, reclaimed slate floor in our kitchen and insulated, tacked and plastered the walls with a mirror finish, ready for the new kitchen. Next up was the upstairs bathroom, John raised the floor level, installed the drainage infrastructure, built a stud wall for the shower and washing machine/dryer. He insulated, tacked, plastered and tiled the walls and shower cubicle, built a beautiful bespoke corner storage system and installed the bathroom units. He also removed the walls behind the staircase and made good the walls in preparation for the new staircases in stage 2. John also created a new bespoke exposed brick fireplace which is now the centre piece of our living room! Stage 2 has just started and we are so pleased John was able to come back. He exposed the ceiling opening in preparation for the new attic staircase. He then prepared the understairs area for a new wet room/toilet and designed and implemented a new sewage system. He then replaced all the damaged gutters on the roof. John is currently working on the understairs wetroom as well as the attic conversion. In summary, John is dependable, reliable and a great guy to be around. He has a wide skill set, a pragmatic mind and produces fine work. He is always on-time, works extremely hard and his workmanship is second to none. We trust John explicitly, he is like family to us and has his own key to our house! He is also great with our cats and all our neighbours. We are always happy to open our door for John and his prospective clients, so as to give you a preview of the quality of workmanship you would receive if you employed John for your construction requirements.

DBH Builders Ltd gave me a professional service from start to finish. The estimate was prompt, detailed and well presented. Work started as soon as it was agreed and proceeded through to completion with no delays. Everything was finished on time and to an excellent standard. Conversions - General- 24 Jul 2025
Wesley and team did a fair job, however we felt like corners were cut or jobs were not completed to a high standard. During the build we had issues that arose such as a leak in the wall from plumbing and we had asked for an extra for a radiator to be replaced upstairs- the guy that was used for this was miserable and also caused a leak in the heating system. Also when levelling the floor this was done over several days and ended up being very un-level which he did have to come back and correct. We had doors installed which are sub par at best- avoid using his carpenter! The worst part of the situation was our French doors which were “new” however installed terribly- not level and gritty to open. At first when called back, Wesley seemed to want to help to solve the situation, but after 4 months of chasing he came to take a broken part of the door away to be replaced and has now gone silent. So now looking at having to pay more money to solve the problems from the build.

RMD Replaced three bathrooms, cloak, en-suite and family. The work was planned so that disruption was kept to a minimum and we were give practical advice throughout as we made the detailed decisions during fitting. The work, including cabinet making, was excellent and carried out with an eye for detail. Alex has a 'belt and braces' approach so everything was fitted to last even if it required additional work and preparation. It was all done to budget too and the pricing was fair, open and honest. RMD proved to be great quality, trustworthy, a pleasure to work with and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Extensions- 5 May 2019
We’re delighted with the work Jamie and Charlie have carried out for us. Although only a single story extension, it was complicated work with several steels and unusual roof angles to negotiate. Their workmanship and pride in taking care of the details shone throughout. We decided to stay living in the property whilst the work was carried out and they made sure we had a fully functioning temporary kitchen, with insulated temporary wall shielding us from the elements and keeping us secure. They were fantastic with the kids and we thoroughly enjoyed having them around. I’ve never known trades to be so tidy, making sure our space was totally liveable throughout the project and going above and beyond to try and keep minimal impact to us. We decided to extend the project and asked them to tidy up our garden with a fantastic new double patio, hand made wooden pergola and raised beds, and a new garden fence - all completed to their usual high standard and great advice on what would look good. We’re delighted with how it’s all turned out. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others and we’ll certainly be using them for any future building projects. Thanks guys!

Mike and his son Kyle did a great job from start to finish. Very responsive with organising a visit and getting over a quote. Incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly guys!
