Used build and renovate for a garage conversion…told it was a 6 week job. Started in July. Still not finished in January. Bathroom fitted in the garage is leaking. Vanity unit is wonky. Poor finish to carpentry. The new plaster in the garage is mouldy due to lack of heating for an extended time (electrician was so unreliable). Interior lime plastering…actual plastering is good, but poor finish overall. Nails left sticking out of the window beams, damage to ceiling/wall not made good. Exterior lime render. Generally good. Except they left the guttering down pipes off for several months so the new render got flooded every time it rained and I had to chase and chase and chase to get it put back. Was eventually done. I have many emails/photos to evidence all of the issues. He doesn’t respond to emails, calls and texts. He refuses to give a completion date. He refuses to give any indication of when they’ll be back to complete the work. Has clearly moved on to a new job and has no motivation to come back and complete this one. Some stuff has been sorted but took weeks/months of chasing before any action. Been left with multiple outstanding issues with no indication of when, or if, they will be fixed. And now the new roof, fitted to the garage, has started leaking! Had hoped we’d found a reliable and competent local independent tradesperson. We’ve been incredibly patient and understanding of the many delays and ‘snags’ but I’ve just had enough now.

Rob and his team are by far the best tradesmen I have ever worked with. They listened to my ideas and brought their experience to bear on the project. Their estimates were competitive and accurate and their work ethic was fantastic. They even managed to save me a bit of money with their innovative thinking and product suggestions. I probably wasn't the easiest client to deal with... last minute changes etc... but the team were extremely accommodating and understanding. I highly recommend Groundworks & Civils for any kind of similar work you are thinking of undertaking. The test of a good tradesmen is whether of not you would use them again. I will and I did. What an amazing Tradesman, Old School skills and Ethos. Nothing was too much trouble with Martin, came when he said, worked competently displaying high skill levels from someone who clearly enjoys what he is doing. Came back to finish more courses that were unexpectedly needed after the old roof was removed. Even left the scaffolding for my Carpenter to use when boarding the roof out. I will definitely use Martin again on some more work planned. Don't miss out on this guy he's a super conscientious Tradesman whose precision brickwork is constantly being praised and admired by other tradesmen who have worked for me. i hired JJ construction to do a kitchen extension for me last October, once we accepted his quote, he said he couldn't start until this March, so we stopped searching for other builders, it was all going to plan until now just 2 weeks before he was supposed to start the job, we received a really vague email from him just saying he wouldn't be able to do the work now, i emailed back asking why and saying how we've waited so long for the work to be done and is he really going to just let us down at such notice, to which he never even had the decency to reply. I wouldn't hire this guy because he is such a let down and if you don't want to do a job, i would suggest you don't accept it in the first place. We are really disapointed.
