Typically we will be called to site to carry out a full dimension survey and produce a set of drawings along with structural calculations for the alterations. The builder will then work from these drawings to meet the clients requirements. The calculations can be sent to the local authority for approval. When you introduce yourself tell them how you were intrigued or interested in how they executed XYZ. When they finish telling you about the process , then advise what you do and how it is related and how you can help. Make the connection and show how what you know and can offer will in fact benefit them. Try not to make it like a sales pitch. Be casual about it
