The job - gutting our living room. Tearing down the ceiling, removing all old wallpaper and ripping up the floor in order to insulate and add lighting. While we were doing this, we decided to replace the main steel in the living room (which was oversize and impacted the floor height in the guest room) and do remedial works in the guest room. The steel replacement was not time budgeted, but Oli and Tony didn’t hesitate to quote,To make time for us and bring in the structural engineer. Probably added 3 weeks to their time on site. The trades they brought in (plumbing for heating, electrician for downlighters, structural engineer and plasterers) were all professional, did an excellent job and were all unfailingly polite. It was easy to build a good, positive relationship with them, to the point we felt comfortable giving them the keys to the house so they could work while we went away for two weeks. They sent photos of their progress and showed up and worked as if we were there. I was very impressed by the state of the house when we got back. They watered our plants (I didn’t ask) and they cleaned the hallway so that it was spotless. They did a good job for a fair price, and were always cheerful and open to conversation. They came back to do a few snagging items without being chased (this is a huge thing for me, after having chased many builders to finish bits and pieces). I would definitely use them again.

Fully fitted fire doors and acoustic doors fitted to conform with regulations . I do have other building skills mainly for remedial works . I am a carpenter by trade .

Seemed a nice chap to begin with, but as soon as you have any issues, that changes. When Martin finished, he says I was on a call so couldn't say bye (fair enough) but could have left a note or sent a message, because when I discovered he had left and I looked at the work, I genuinely thought he had gone to the shops or something as it clearly wasn't finished. We had a door from the garage into the house put in with a step, which was left loose. When I questioned this he said that it was an option and he thought it was a nice idea. This doesn't make sense as this was part of the job I asked to be done, which he charged for and included on his invoice. There were other issues which made it look like a rushed job. He fitted the wrong lock, blamed the retailer but must have noticed and tried to get away with it as it clearly said "3 lever" on it when he quoted for 5 lever. There was something else I wanted doing which he basically said "not my job" so I agreed to pay extra for. He never came back to me with dates on when he could do it and ignored my texts when I chased. When he finally agreed to come and do it after I called, he texts at 9.10 when he said he'd come at 9 saying "running late" (yes I can see that) can I come at 10 or on Monday, so I said yes 10 is fine, then he says sorry Monday is better for me, I have jobs to do around the house! I questioned why I he said he would come then and he blamed a flat tyre. Unfortunately there is a word count so can't cover it all!

Restoration & Refurbishment- 22 Aug 2022
I wanted larger kitchen by removing a stud wall and fitting a Wren kitchen. Ryan has a wealth of kitchen fitting and kitchen make-over experience. He is a perfectionist with an attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble for Ryan as During the fitting of my kitchen I asked Ryan to replace the outside cladding, install outside water taps and electrical sockets, also Install spot and under cupboard lighting which he happily done for me. Ryan also organised tradesmen to carry out the other jobs which wasn't in his field such as fitting a new boiler, flooring and plastering. All work was carried out to a high standard. He has great connections with other tradesmen should you require. Many thanks to, Tom the boiler guy, Nick the floor guy, and Kevin the plasterer guy who are very skilled at what they do. its rare to see a tradesman that always has a smile even when you add to their work load. Many thanks Ryan, and expect more work from me in the future. 10/10

Kevin from K7 renovations has done 2 jobs for me in the last few years, the first being an annex in my garden, the second was a full extension with high vaulted ceilings. Both jobs ran smoothly from the time I handed him my architects drawings. The things that stood out for me were Kevin's knowledge and understanding of what I required, the timekeeping of everyone on site and last but not least the site was left tidy at the end of every day. I would highly recommend K7 to anyone. I would be happy to share photos of these projects with anyone.

Sorry this is long: our experience differs to most on here. We chose Better Living to do our side and rear extensions from start to finish. All was good until the subcontractors finished the main structures, then it all went downhill. Ben rarely answered his phone, texts, emails etc., and because they had started a bigger project elsewhere they repeatedly abandoned ours, often for weeks at a time. Even when we went on holiday, they had the complete run of the house for two weeks but did very little. Ben deliberately held up work for two weeks after receiving a stage payment a day late, having given us one day to pay after emailing an invoice. Beyond the main structural jobs their work was often sub-standard and our instructions were not followed due to poor communication between the team. Out of frustration we eventually took a lot of work off them and drafted in other tradesmen to complete the project, also doing some of the work ourselves. We have since had to have some of their heating work rectified by engineers. Not saying everything was bad, but fact is the list of problems and poorly completed jobs is too long to list here. They finished at our property over three months ago and have still not sent us the completion documents. As usual, Ben is not responding to our attempts to contact him. Despite being hospitable to their team, we feel we were treated shabbily by BL and sadly would not recommend them.
