First of all this company although on here is called Apex Paving they also trade as Total Paving and surfacing, we very recently got our driveway and back garden done also 2 new resin steps, everything seemed fine this was the last part of the job steps just needed to be finished off after resin dried and we in good faith paid John Townsley, later that night we discovered the resin on the steps started to bubble and rise I immediately contacted John he asked me to send pictures of the steps which I did, didn’t hear anything from him, managed to speak with him the following week to which he said that he would get the steps sorted, and so 3 weeks on he’s obviously blocked my number and had no intention to fix them, to say the least we are so disgusted and disappointed with him thought he was better than that, this will be taken further. My rating is one star as I don’t get the option to put a zero.

This was the worse decision we made. The drive is all lifting since they did not remove the weeds before laying the bricks, the garden roof needed re-doing and John stopped responding to calls so we needed to pay for someone else to come and fix his mess. Watch out.

Sam is very rude, unprofessional and I wasted £300 for pigeon proofing which just survived one week. I called him to fix the issue and he said "I will come when I can" . Such an unprofessional attitude. It is now 4 weeks and he has never turned up. I made a mistake hiring him. There are so many honest tradesman on mybuilder and this guy should never be allowed on this site. I have dealt with so many good tradesman but I have never seen such a rude and hot headed guy who does not even know know to speak to the customers. Please please avoid this guy even he is 200% cheap!!

I DO NOT recommend this trader. The job was very rushed- it felt like on a conveyor belt, quickly to get over with, before moving on to the next customer the following week. Poor communication with the client prior to the start of the job. The deposit requested was way above half of the quoted cost of the job - around 67%-which is too much and hence left the trader less motivated to do the job properly. He left part of the job unfinished and did not come to complete it when requested. He left cement chunks visible and did not make a step down towards my shed and now we have to "jump down" an uncomfortable drop. The slabs he put were not as seen in his catalogue: half of the rows on my patio look brown and half are yellow. When I mentioned this he said that they are from the same batch. However, he could have returned them to the store as they clearly look bad quality. I have visual evidence to demonstrate the bad quality job done by this trader and am now looking for legal advice on logging a complaint or to solicitor a refund.

Avoid at all costs!!! Scammer. Mark carried out some work for us late last year, charging over £3000.00. It is a total mess, all flags have lifted, cracked and he will not answer his phone to us. We used a different phone and he answered but told us he had gone bust and wasn’t allowed to speak to us!!! This is a lie, he is still Trading on Companies House. He ignores all letters. Let’s see if he avoids court!!

Do not let this man build anything more than a garden wall. He has left my extension in a right mess the porch roof, soffits, guttering, floor and electrics have all been condemned, some as dangerous, as well as some drainage and plumbing works being unfinished. There are sooo many problems the building inspectors are after him also trading standards are now involved.

James and Jery arrived on time and set to work without a fuss and without making a mess. A problem did emerge with a gutter that they were fixing as part of the work but they solved this, again without a fuss, and all the work was completed to a good standard much quicker than originally expected. I would definitely contact them again if other work needs doing.

We wanted our block paving cleaned and re-sanded to stop weeds. We were quoted £200-300. They did a great job cleaning it and removing the weeds but after doing this, they told us we needed a very small part of it (just 1m2) of levelled out to avoid the new sand falling away. They quoted an additional £400 for this. Despite this being completely out of our initial budget, we felt like we had no choice but to pay as they were halfway through and were telling us it was needed for the sand to stay put. We agreed to pay an additional £300. We were pleased with the job when completed as it looked clean but within three weeks, the weeds had returned and the small part they had levelled was uneven again. It has continued to get worse since then. Upon complaining, they told me it was just Mother Nature and we should take it up with the maker of the sealer they used. We spent literally all our savings on this - we feel it wasn't £600 worth of work and we are devastated that the problems remain.

Came round to do a first tidy of the garden before the winter - did a good job and gave a good price too. However, the second (bigger) job had to be moved to early spring due to the weather. Dropped off the face of the earth. I chased for three months - both the gardener and the main contact as SJC, no reply.

I was not going to leave a review as i got the money back i paid but then i saw trevor's reply to the review above , like this person we found Trevor constantly didnt turn up when he said he would , when he did the work was sub standard as confirmed by building inspector ( pictures taken ) left site area messy , and when i was in talks with him on the phone he thinks its fine to use terms like F' off you C ,, and that was also recorded Trevor if you want to dispute it

I hired Mike for job and he built the wall as expected on day 1. He came back a few days later with a friend/colleague to hang the gate and complete the job he was hired for. When he said the job had been completed I was not happy as the gate was not level and to close the gate meant pulling the top of the gate which would have caused the gate to warp. Mike got visibly annoyed and huffed and puffed then tried again. The second attempt had the gate off by an inch to which I was even less happy but I maintained that the job was not complete. At this point Mike had starting raising his voice and swearing which is not acceptable. He threatened to knock the wall down with a sledge hammer. Mike also mentioned, "leave me a bad review, I don't care". (I have this all on video!) Mike and his friend eventually corrected their mistake, as I insisted they complete the job in correct the way as agreed before the job started. I am extremely disappointed by this type of behaviour and definitely what you expect from a 'professional' company. I will never hire this company again nor would I ever recommend them. Use them at your own discretion.

I was taken in by a cowboy. So disappointed. I needed a soakaway. Matt didn't do written, itemised quotes. After 1 day's work he said he needed more money for extra work (hadn't surveyed properly) including hiring a concrete drill to get through the footings next to the house wall (he assured me this was fine). He wanted cash for some of the work (I didn't do this). The job wasn't finished properly. I couldn't be there to supervise as the dates originally agreed were changed. My original steps were damaged during the work and not replaced. I now have a muddy slope up to the lawn - a hazard and I can't easily get up there. All the clay soil and stones from the dug out pit were thrown all over my precious flower beds, burying and damaging plants and shrubs. Some won't recover - a total mess. When I spoke to Matt he said he didn't know that I didn't want that! (Saved cost of proper disposal). A load of rubble was thrown behind the summerhouse out of sight, and one of the other workers was blamed for this. I asked Matt to come back to rectify the damage, although I had done my best to clear most of the soil and stones from the garden (I'm in my mid 60's and not in the best of health). We arranged dates for him to return four times - no one turned up and I had to contact Matt to find out what was going on - always excuses. 8 weeks after the original date agreed my garden is still a mess. I wish I could attach photos. I now have to pay someone else to put it all right.

I went to great lengths to explain what needed to be done. Craig said all the right things and provided an itemised quote. When it came to doing the work Craig realised he had miscalculated the amount of soil to be taken away and tried to charge additional for this. When I pointed out that it was clearly itemised & included in the quote the attitude towards the job completely changed. They couldn’t get out of this job quick enough. I overheard things like “leave it, it’s not our problem”. Craig suggested not doing some of the remaining things and given the drastic change in attitude and general quality of work I had to agree. At the end they left a pile of soil half covering a public footpath and said it would be taken away the next day. I had to chase constantly as I was getting complaints for obstructing a public footpath – but they took no further responsibility. I also found damage to the brickwork. Inexperienced, unprofessional and overpriced. A horrible experience. Stay clear!
