Question 1

What is a tarmac driveway made of, and why is it suitable for Wellington?

Accepted Answer

Tarmac is a mixture of crushed stones and tar, chosen for its strength, durability, and smooth finish. It is well-suited to Wellington because it can withstand the local weather conditions, including rain, frost, and occasional temperature fluctuations. Its fast installation process also minimizes disruption, making it a practical choice for busy households or commercial properties in the area.

Question 2

How long does a typical tarmac driveway last in Wellington?

Accepted Answer

When installed correctly, a tarmac driveway in Wellington can provide reliable service for 15 to 25 years. The longevity largely depends on proper base preparation, materials used, and regular maintenance. Given Wellington's weather, sealing the surface every few years helps prevent cracks and potholes caused by temperature changes and moisture.

Question 3

How long does the installation process take in Wellington?

Accepted Answer

Most small to medium-sized driveways in Wellington can be laid within **1 to 2 days**, allowing you to return to normal activities quickly. Larger projects, or those requiring extensive groundwork, might need up to a week, especially if weather conditions delay curing. Working with experienced local tarmac companies in Wellington ensures efficiency and results.

Question 4

Is tarmac better than other surfacing options like block paving or concrete?

Accepted Answer

Tarmac offers a cost-effective, quick, and low-maintenance solution for large or high-traffic driveways in Wellington. It is especially suitable if you require a smooth surface with minimal downtime. Block paving adds aesthetic appeal and can be replaced easily if damaged, but it usually costs more and takes longer to install. Concrete is durable but less flexible in colder areas like Wellington, where cracking can occur.

Question 5

Are there any planning or permission considerations specific to Wellington?

Accepted Answer

Depending on your property’s location within Wellington, such as conservation areas or listed buildings, planning permissions might be required before tarmac installation. It’s always advisable to check with your local council in Wellington to ensure compliance with any regulations.
