Different Air Conditioning Types & Repair Costs
Some units are more complex, requiring specialised parts or experience, which can lead to higher repair costs. Let's explore the typical costs associated with different air conditioning unit types.
Here is a quick summary of different types and their costs:
Window Units: Generally, window units are the most affordable to repair, with typical costs ranging from £50 to £150. These units are simple in construction, and repairing minor issues or replacing small parts is relatively inexpensive.
Split Systems: Repairs for split systems often cost between £100 and £500. These are more complex due to their separate indoor and outdoor components, making them pricier to fix than window units.
Ducted Central Air Systems: Repairing these systems can be costly, typically between £300 and £800. As these units involve a network of ducts and larger components, both parts and labour are more expensive.
Portable Air Conditioners: Costs for repairs generally fall between £50 and £200. Such units are versatile and easy to move, leading to less potential for damage and simpler repairs.
Hybrid Air Conditioners: Repairs can be expensive, often exceeding £500. These systems integrate traditional and renewable energy sources, which complicates the repair process.
Cost-Saving Tips for Air Conditioning Repair
Looking after your air conditioning and dealing with small issues early can reduce repair costs down the line. Try these practical tips to save money and keep your system running smoothly:
Schedule Regular Maintenance: Regular maintenance services, priced between £80 to £150 annually, help detect minor issues before they become major repairs. Having your system checked at least once a year ensures it runs efficiently and extends its lifespan, reducing the likelihood of costly repairs.
Replace Air Filters Frequently: Changing your filters every few months can prevent clogs that overwork your system. Replacement filters cost between £15 and £40.
Use Energy-Efficient Models: Investing in an energy-efficient air conditioning unit can reduce operational costs and the frequency of repairs.
Optimise Thermostat Settings: Properly setting your thermostat can prevent your system from being overworked.
Inspect and Clean the System Regularly: Regular system cleaning costs, which typically cost between £50 and £100, can prevent dirt and debris from causing damage to the internal components of your air conditioning unit.
Prompt Repairs: Addressing minor issues immediately can prevent them from escalating into major problems. Basic repair services typically range from £60 to £150.
Consider a Maintenance Package: Many companies offer maintenance service packages priced at £80 to £150. These packages often include multiple checks throughout the year, helping to keep your system in good condition.

Vertical Radiators

How do remove a vertical radiator in order to paint behind it? Without the fluid in the system spilling out? Obviously you turn the boiler off first, but the connections to the rad only have the thermostat one side and the shut off valve the other side. If you uncouple the rad the water runs out?
