Do cabinet makers near me carry out site visits before quoting?

Most cabinet makers prefer to visit your property before giving a final quote. A site visit helps them measure precisely, check access, and understand your storage or layout needs. When you post your job on MyBuilder, you can connect with professional cabinet makers near you who will confirm if a visit is needed.

Can existing cabinets be refurbished instead of replaced?

Yes, many cabinet makers offer refurbishing or modification services. They can reface, repaint, or adjust your existing cabinets to give them a new look or improve functionality without a full replacement. A local cabinet maker can advise whether refurbishment is practical for your cabinets.

Do cabinet makers near me design custom furniture as well?

Professional cabinet makers often design and build bespoke furniture, such as wardrobes, shelving units, or desks, tailored to your space. You can discuss your ideas during a consultation to create a design that suits your room dimensions and style preferences.

Can I find traditional or heritage cabinet makers near me on MyBuilder?

Yes. If your project involves period furniture or restoring antique-style joinery, mention this when posting your job. Many cabinet makers near you specialise in **heritage or handcrafted woodworking techniques** and can match original details faithfully.

How long does a cabinet-making project usually take?

Timelines depend on the scale and detail of the work. Small cabinetry updates or built-in shelving may take a few days, while fully bespoke kitchens or fitted wardrobes can take several weeks from design to installation. Your chosen cabinet maker will provide a timeline after the initial consultation.

Do custom-made cabinets need special maintenance?

Quality cabinets made from solid wood or natural materials may require light maintenance to preserve their finish. This could include oiling, polishing, or checking joins over time. A cabinet maker near you can recommend the best maintenance routine for your materials.

Nathan laid an engineered oak floor. He also fitted new door linings, doors, skirting and architraves. He is very, very reliable. He did an excellent job of the floor - we have had lots and lots of compliments about the floor and how well it has been put down. He is extremely trustworthy. We left him in the house all day with no problems at all. He kept in regular contact with me. He is generally a very nice lad and we would highly recommend him to anyone else.

Joinery & Cabinet Making- 7 Oct 2019
Here is the short version: I asked for fitted wardrobe, with 3 drawers. On the final day, I found out that instead of drawers he had installed IKEA metal mesh baskets! He also got the colour wrong, got the distance between the baskets wrong, and scratched my brand new wooden floor. Also the painting of the wardrobe was sloppy, and the wardrobe doors get stuck against each other. Here is the long version: When I asked why he had installed baskets, he said the mesh baskets were more durable, and that he had costed the job based on them, not drawers, and that he had already spent £400 on material! In other words, either he decided to cut corners half-way through the job to make it worthwile for himself; Or maybe he meant to use baskets all along, but misled me by saying that he was giving me drawers. Even IKEA sells baskets as "baskets", not "drawers". To make it worse: - he got the distance between the baskets wrong! - he got the baskets in the wrong colour! - the doors get stuck against each other. - despite my warnings, he scratched the brand new wooden floor. - the painting job was untidy. So I asked him for a quote to replace baskets by actual drawers. Although I believe he should've done it for free, I agreed to his new quote but he never showed up at the appointment! The point of a customised job is to have it according to your specification. Not that the tradesman promises one thing and then decides on your behalf and violates his own quote.

The best two builders in the world. CR builders, are by far the most polite, courteous and lovely gentlemen that I have ever had the PLEASURE of dealing with in my entire life. They were ALWAYS on time in the mornings, getting straight on with their work and man they work hard. They never wasted time. Completed a huge project on time, on budget (excellent quotation provided) and I literally can't say a bad thing about CR builders. If anyone would ever like to see their dry lining skills, please feel free to visit Unit 6, K9 Estate, Ferry Lane South, RM13 9YH. CR builders built me a 30 metre length x 9 metre high wall and did so within the two week short timeframe I had given them. Professional to the core, and SO knowledgeable. They were always happy to explain to me what they were doing and showing me the work they had completed. I could go on forever about CR builders. I made a great friendship with CR builders by the end of our time together, and they will always remain my first call. They also did work on creating a new opening in my warehouse for roller shutters, and also creating a concrete ramp for a van to drive up to my shutters. All in all, a 20 out of 10 from me.

Stewart’s problem-solving skills were put to good use in dealing with my challenging kitchen with its uneven walls, pipework obstructions and sloping floor. He takes pride in his work, paying close attention to detail and not satisfied until everything was perfect and all cupboards were exactly aligned and the beautiful worktop was a perfect fit and with amazing invisible joins. Stewart is a master of his craft and did the work at a very reasonable price. I now have a fantastic kitchen and I couldn’t be happier with it - a big success!
