Do repointing specialists near me carry out site surveys before quoting?

Repointing specialists in your area often prefer to visit the site before providing a final quote. This allows them to assess any access challenges, the condition of the existing mortar, and any hidden damage. You can connect with local repointing specialists on MyBuilder to discuss whether a site visit is needed for your project.

Can local repointing specialists nearby repair damaged mortar, or do they always recommend full replacement?

Many repointing specialists near you can repair sections of damaged mortar using patching or partial repointing methods. After a site inspection, they can advise if repair is sufficient or if full repointing is necessary to restore your brickwork.

Do local repointing specialists work with different types of brick and stone?

Yes, repointing specialists in your area should have experience working with a range of bricks and stone types. When posting your job on MyBuilder, specify the materials involved to ensure they are prepared to match the original mortar.

Can I find heritage or conservation-focused repointing specialists nearby?

If your property is listed or within a conservation area, you can include this in your job details. Some local repointing specialists have expertise in heritage restoration and traditional pointing techniques suited for these sensitive projects.

How long does repointing typically take when done by local specialists?

The time needed varies by the size and complexity of the job. Smaller repairs can take a few hours to days, while extensive repointing may require several weeks. Local repointing specialists can provide a detailed timeline once they understand your project requirements.

Is ongoing maintenance required after repointing by local specialists?

Repointing done by local specialists offers lasting protection, but some maintenance like cleaning or future touch-ups may be needed over time. Repointing specialists and companies near you can advise on a maintenance plan based on your building’s exposure and materials.

Jeremy started by taking the work on with no issues what so ever and appeared helpful and professional and nothing was to much trouble . HOWEVER.... Jeremy gave a estimate of 10 day for the work to be completed 3 months later... I am now paying someone to Fix his shoddy work and finish what he started leaving telling me "he over ran" this is was in face due to the fact in outsourced the work to other unreliable trades persons who did eventually complete the work however massively over charge and are days late with no justification. There is so much here I could write but I am reserving this for the process I am to start. All I would say is DO NOT get him to do your work I am now paying even more money, having paid HIM 5k to fix is mess. "Obsolutely disgraceful" are the words of the tradesmen fixing it. Quality of a "POOR DIY JOB" has also been said. Please yourself a favour and do not employ. Lee the electrician he works with I have no issues. How work is fine...

Started off brilliantly. Worked full days, friendly, professional. But once work was nearly finished builders disappeared carpenters only came occasionally. Still waiting weeks later for carpentry work, electrical work and final building work to be completed. Very disappointed, would be loath to recommend this company to anyone. Still hoping they will return to finish.

Complete waste of time. Hired this tradesman a few months ago, to work on a simple brick BBQ. We had a conversation in person about the job and i informed him i would be supplying the bricks as they are "reclaimed". On the day they were to start the job, he turned up and said "oh" where are the materials, which was concerning. I had to explain our conversation in detail to point out that i said i was supplying the brick as they were reclaimed, no mention of any other material. I had just completed a huge renovation project and this was one of the final contractors to be used. Unfortunately this person is very amateur, and he then made me pay £500 for materials to be delivered. I paid for the materials and the new start date he suggested wasnt suitable, he then said he longer wanted the job! Can you believe it, he made me pay for all the materials, even though that was not agreed in person. I have dealt with over 12 different teams working on this project, and this one is the worst. No care in the word, he even sent a text said he was "quaking in his pants" about a bad review. I just replied saying, that sums everything up - totally unprofessional. Move on.

Mark Thorne has vanished! Now I have paid him he is no longer in touch. His work is sloppy, untidy and finished to an exceptionally poor standard. He has used the wrong grout shade and the over filled the grooves. I am so disappointed with the results. I hired Mark to relay a couple of slabs and repoint a small patio.(In April) I have tried on many occasions (now July!) to get him to come back and sort out the mess that he has left. He said at first that he would come back but then stopped responding to my messages. I will now have to get someone else to sort out his mess. I would not recommend Mark Thorne of MT Builders and will not be using him again.

Very happy with Josh's work. He removed several bricks, went to a reclamation yard to get good matches, set them in and repointed other bits in the same area. He was thorough, the work is of a high standard, and he cleaned up well. He also rigged up the old gate so the garden was secure until the new gate arrived. (By the way he didn't spend any time working one-handed while talking on a mobile for which I was grateful.) His charges are very fair. I have asked him to quote for a bigger job. Was slightly wary of employing someone who had just joined MyBuilder but glad I did.

Dear Brian I have tried to contact you on several occasions to complete the job. I really do not wish to leave negative reviews all over the Internet. Will you get in touch? Just ignoring the situation will not go away as I am now in receipt of your insurance documents and want to resolve amicably. I put you on notice to get in touch within 7 days. If I do not hear back I'm afraid I will have to start the legal processes as you give me no other option. I hope to hear from you within the allotted timeframe and do hope we can avoid litigation in this circumstance. Thank you. Dawn

Would not recommend. Grouping poor & cracking, tiles not flush causing build up of grime. Cases not fixed properly. Chipped window sill. Flooring starting to move. Didn't want to leave feedback but 2 years on and we are having to have things replaced. Don't want to ask them back as getting them to replace our bath they broke was drama enough. A lot of money spent on this project we'd of never expected to have to touch it for years. Very disappointing

Bricklaying- 6 Jun 2017
He Agreed to do the job in 3 days at £650. 4 days into the job he was not 20% of the way done mainly because he was not doing full days. At this point I knew he was going to expect more than what we agreed (£650) so I renegotiated that he would finish the job at £900. 2 weeks after the job had commenced he was finished in his mind. The finishing in the porch was beyond rubbish. The glass wall was done but the finishing was far from acceptable (the corners are sharp). The fire exit door does not open and close properly though it does with some effort. No canopy was fitted although I compromised and I asked him to fit a metal bracket to front and rear of door which was easier than fitting a canopy to save him time. He only fitted a bracket to the front of the door and left the rear with an excuse of course. The place was left filthy. The rubbish and excess material were not disposed off. I personally ended up finishing the glass wall and I am now employing something to do a proper job on the porch. I paid him £740 and withheld the remainder. Will never hire someone with no feedback or poor feedback again!!!

Fencing- 18 May 2021
I am 69 years of age, a pensioner and the work done by ONR Services is without doubt the worst I have ever experienced. I feel I have been robbed and intimidated. The gate won't shut. The fence is crooked, feather edge panels broken and split. I should not have paid them! With two against one we had a very heated argument with refusal to pay and court action from me a likely outcome unless they corrected the awful job done. They refused! However when they refused and the response from the other side contained statements of 'burglary' I realised this was progressing to clear intimidation. I continued to argue but realised that payment in full in the first instance was probably the path of least resistance. I now have a significant job to make corrections and inevitably pay another contractor to correct the mess that's been left. Certainly I will never even consider to engage ONR SERVICES again and will never consult MyBuilder again. A total very bad and awful experience that I would not wish upon anyone. Avoid ONR SERVICES and avoid MyBuilder!

Appalling service. Gutters are still full of grass and leaves - I have photos of before and after and he’s actually made it worse as there are now broken slates which were not before. Tried to contact but he’d taken the money and ran when he realised his super duper high reach hoover couldn’t reach nor do the job at all. He assured us he would return the next day- Hasn’t responded to messages on here. Be advised - this is a cowboy outfit. Do NOT Use. You have been warned.
