The edge of the roof is called the roofline it is one of the most exposed areas on the outside of the house. In heavy weather water pours off the roof tiles into the guttering and the wind tries to blow it back into the house under the eaves. So the fascia boards, which hold the guttering up and keep the water out, must be waterproof and very strong.
