Are bricklayers near me required to follow building regulations?

Yes, especially for structural work such as extensions or load-bearing walls, local bricklayers must ensure their work complies with local building codes and regulations to guarantee safety and quality.

Is it possible to see previous projects from a bricklayer before hiring?

Absolutely, most bricklayers can show you photos, references, or testimonials from past jobs. Reviewing bricklayer’s portfolios and reviews on MyBuilder gives you insight into the kind of work they do and the standards they maintain.

What type of warranty or assurance can I expect on bricklaying work?

Many bricklayers near you offer a workmanship guarantee, often lasting 12 months or more, which covers any faults or issues that arise due to their work during that period.

Do bricklayers also handle repair work in addition to new construction?

Yes, many can take on repairs such as repointing, fixing cracked or damaged bricks, and general maintenance. Check with the bricklayer if they offer ongoing support after the initial job.

Do bricklayers supply materials, or do I need to provide them?

Most bricklayers typically supply the materials needed for the job, including bricks, mortar, and other essentials. You can discuss any preferences you have for brick types or finishes to ensure they match your existing work.

Can I hire a bricklayer for small jobs?

Many local bricklayers are happy to take on smaller jobs, such as repointing, building small walls, or carrying out patch repairs. Posting your job on MyBuilder makes it easy to find tradespeople who are available for projects of all sizes, whether minor fixes or larger construction work.

I posted the job this morning after being let down by another builder and John came out straight away and started work (on a Sunday how great is that!) He has completed the work a curved garden wall and pillar to a high standard (and I’m a bit of a perfectionist ) he’s clean, tidy and professional leaving me very happy with the job, It looks like it’s always been there! I would highly recommend to anyone and will be from now on! I will be needing some more work done so will be contacting you again. If any one is looking then johns your man. He’s done a superb job at very short notice and I can’t thank him enough. Thank-you

Richard prepared the whole bathroom from scratch as there was a leakage in the previous bathroom. He has got knowledge and work experience. Firstly he prepared the base ( flooring) as all woods were rotten. I was bit worried in the beginning but when I saw his Craftsmanship than I had a full confidence in him. Richard did a good job and I am pleased. I will take his services in the future.

Valentin, Dan and Chris did a great job turning an old wooden shed into a beautiful teenage den / home office. They stripped the shed down to the original wooden frame, replaced the roof and cladding, subdivided the internal space into two rooms and a small shower room. The job was reasonably priced though there was a little scope creep much of it due to additions to the original specification that resulted in an increase in price. With hindsight we should have made sure we kept track of additional work. They were friendly, tidy and considerate in the work and the dog loved having them around. They were professional and hardworking and we were pleased with the final result which was excellent value for money. We would recommend Valentin and his team and will have them back to do more work for us.

Good builder and worked hard but doesn't seem to care about issues arising post the job, even though was promised inevitable post-completion issues would be rectified as part of service. High levels of craftsmanship and problem solving during the job - can't be faulted. Ours was a significant redevelopment of a terrace house and he handled the project well. A few issues with budget management but that was resolved - down to better communication. Was happy with the high standard of the job on completion but let down by zero communication to resolve issues post the job.

I started within the window fitting trade 22 years ago. Within that time I have spent around 11 years fitting windows and conservators. I attended a full time bricklayer course 15 years ago as I wanted to have the skills to build a conservatory from the ground. I have worked in many other building trades over the years and learnt many skills along the way. I currently work as a service engineer for a window company within Bristol.
