Do bricklayers in South London handle foundations or just the brickwork?

Many bricklaying contractors in South London can lay small foundations for garden walls or garages, but larger structural work may require coordination with a builder or groundworker. Always clarify the scope before the project begins.

Do bricklayers in South London supply the materials, or do I need to buy them myself?

Most bricklayers in South London will supply the materials as part of their quote, including bricks, mortar, sand, and cement. However, if you want to use specific materials (for example, reclaimed or decorative bricks), you can discuss sourcing them yourself. Always clarify who is responsible for ordering and delivery before work begins.

Can bricklayers in South London work during winter?

Bricklaying can be done in winter, but cold or wet weather can affect mortar curing. Most bricklaying firms in South London follow weather-dependent schedules or use protective covers and additives to ensure proper setting. Expect possible delays during freezing or very wet conditions.

Can bricklayers in South London lay blocks or stone as well?

Yes, most South London bricklayers will also be trained to work with concrete blocks, stone, and breeze blocks. This versatility is useful for projects like garden walls, garages, and outbuildings that use mixed materials.

What should I include in a bricklaying contract when hiring a bricklayer in South London?

A contract should outline: - The scope of work - Timeline and payment schedule - Materials and specifications - Insurance and warranties - Cleanup and waste removal responsibilities Having everything in writing helps prevent misunderstandings and protects both you and the contractor.

I was searching for a local tradesman for a few weeks for a small 1-day job. Can’t fault Ryan and his colleague. He was available on the phone when needed, very prompt on the day, and did a great job with the wall. Very reasonably priced too. Would recommend and happily call him again.

Extensions- 14 Mar 2022
Being our first extension project and not knowing any builders we were very anxious about selecting the right people, M & N builders were clearly the best of the bunch! What impressed us was their enthusiasm for the work and the understanding of what we wanted. They are a very professional team who kept us well informed and are also very efficient and like to keep a tidy working environment! We absolutely love what they have done for us and would highly recommend M & N to anyone and will definitely use them again in the future. Thank you M & N for your professional service.

Bricklaying- 9 Dec 2025
We agreed a start date for the work, and from the beginning communication was slow and required constant chasing. Alan sent me a full materials list, which I purchased on the understanding that the job was proceeding. As the start date approached, I repeatedly tried to confirm when he would arrive so I could organise my day and be available to help on site, as we agreed for me to b involved as a labour. Despite reading my messages, he stopped responding entirely. I sent multiple messages and tried calling several times over the course of a week and received no reply at all. The job never started, and I was left with purchased materials and a significant amount of wasted time. I cannot comment on the quality of his work as he never turned up, but based on the communication alone I would strongly advise others to be cautious.

This was the first time we have needed to hire a builder. We chose Paul because on the initial meeting he turned up on time, was knowledgable, gave different ideas of how we could have our wall, and provided us with the companies he used for us to check what he quoted us. Paul was not pushy and was very friendly and provided great customer service. He dropped round sample bricks for us to choose from to provide us with the right colour brick which we wanted. During the build of the wall Paul was punctual, always communicated to us what the next step of the build would be, he always cleaned up after himself and worked longer hours or extra days if he needed to get a certain task completed. We have been so pleased with his work and will certainly be using him for other projects in the near future. We have been lucky in finding a builder we can trust. Thank you Paul for the excellent work you have done for us.

Source FM recently helped us fit out a new 8000 sq ft warehouse in Hackney. The project included installing new electricals, installing new fire and security alarms, repairing and repainting a heavily used concrete floor, redecorating, servicing the heating etc. The project had a very tight time frame and Source FM often had to work around members of our team as we started moving in while work was still ongoing. I'm pleased to say, all the work was completed in time and to a very high standard. We've since used Paul and Bill for a number of smaller projects, both at the warehouse and in our offices.
