We had reservations about the inexperience of the company, but were assured by them that they would do a good job, and they appeared professional in their initial approach. Unfortunately this was not the case. The overall job is adequate so long as you do not look too closely at anything. This was after an extra week putting some things right. The lads themselves were pleasant enough, but did not spend as much time on site as expected and were disorganised, resulting in materials being wasted. I would also question their skills as bricklayers. Some of the brickwork is OK but some not at all. I’m consoling myself that the overall finish is ‘rustic’, but straight lines are definitely missing. Their attention to detail is also woeful. Pointing leaves a lot to be desired, particularly in the stone walls, and parts of the outbuilding need attention already as pointing is missing in places. Corners were also cut and now just coming to light, after we spent the last weekend removing a people carrier of old footings, re-done footing or mortar, rocks and hardcore underneath the soil in the new borders. The only consolation is that the plumbing, electrical and roof work were subcontracted and those people appear to have done a good job. On the basis of our experience I could not recommend this company unless you know exactly what you want doing, how you want it doing, are able to supervise all parts of the job to make sure you are getting what you asked for.
