Cooker Extractor hood up chimney?

Anonymous user 13/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have a range cooker in the chimney brest and want to put a new extractor hood above it that fits into the chimney brest to replace the old broken one that just vents into the chimney! Can I run the extractor vent pipe up the chimney and out the top? There is 1 floor above the kitchen and the cooker is on a party wall so I cant go out the back of the chimney. The run would be about 5-6m of 150mm diameter pipe straight up. I have a large extractor hood with a grease filter and was planning on using semi rigid aluminium ducting and a cowel on the chimney pot. Will this work? Will I have problems with condensation or grease on the ducting pipe? Are there any other problems I might have? Any help appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Not a snowballs chance in hell. Any steam/condensation drawn into the chimney will just condence inside the chimney and run back down eventually causing a damp problem.

you will have to refer to the manufacturers specification to see if the fan is capable ofblowing that distance, regards Terry.
