Advice on removing ivy from a quarry wall

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.40 PM

My problem has not really got anything to do with trees but thought it would be the best job type to select for advice. My house is located in an old quarry, and backs on to the quarry wall. Not sure of the height of the wall but is at least as high as two houses. My problem is Ivy which has been allowed to grow and which now covers the majority of the wall and is extremely think in some places (some 4-5ft thick in places). Does anyone have any advice on how to kill and remove, and what I would be left with afterwards in regards to appearance. Also what type of company would actually be interested in doing this type of job. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance.

If you're not in a mad rush to remove this, then simply cut the ivy close to the ground and let it die naturally, then there will be minimum damage to the wall and or nesting birds. It's much easier to handle 3 months or so after its died, so will be cheaper to get rid of.

The Job you are asking for is classed as De-scaling and would be carried out by a geo technic company. This is carried out on rail and road embankments through out the coutry all the time. You have two options based on access. Get a cherry picker in at around £600 a week or use rope access. The ivy comes off fairly easy once you get started but its a job you want to do out of nesting season as i'm sure there will be plenty nests. Whats your location? We have certificates in both measures if you were interested in a price? Regards Garry Howe
