Replace window with a door
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.49 PM
I want to replace a window with an outside door. I would need a radiator moved and fixed on the wall to the left of the frame. I think the wall width would only allows a single door. Can I do this How long would it take What type of builder do I need to do the job Answers would be greatly Appreciated. I am being very cautious as I was recently severly ripped of with building work I don't have a clue about these things. Thanks for any replies

as long as you are not changing the width then no structural calcs required ,take out window ,cut and demolish below ,install frame and door ,seal and make good inside and out ,move rad ect expect to pay around 1600 pounds upwards but no more than 2.5k it all depends on type of door required ie good quality high security locks door and frame around 850 without fitting, should take 2 days to complete

What substructure says is correct. Have you thought about how the radiator will be moved? How easy will it be to alter the pipework? is it a concrete or timber floor? If you have a timber floor then it will not be a problem but if you have a concrete floor then it becomes an issue. I recently recommended taking the pipe work in the cavity below the threshold of the new door to be installed. this saved my client a lot of hassle.
