Grout on porcelain tiles and grout too light

Anonymous user 30 December 2011 - 12.56 PM

we had our bathroom including wet room area tiled in porcelain tiles. The grout is too light and the wrong colour and it seems like there is grout residue or something on alot of the tiles as they have a kind of grey film and marks over some of them? Please advise what remedies can take to clean up the tiles and possibly make the grout darker as they grey used it too light? many thanks. Really has not turned out so great. thanks in advance

I, have a feeling your tiler did not polish of the residue after grouting this can make or break a job,you can get a grout cleaner which should remove this,as for lighter grout there is a grout pen which you can get from any diy shop or you could use some cement dye mixed with water and lightly wipe the joints but this may stain the tiles if not sealed, otherwise it will need raking out of the grout and regrouting .

Hi there, it sounds like the tiles were not cleaned properly after grouting which leaves a fine film of grout on the tiles, normally one would buff up and polish the tiles once the grout is almost dry in the joints. There is a grout remover for tiles (not joints) on the market, try a good tile shop like tile rite or a small independent one, always good for advice. As for darkening the grout the only way I know is to remove the grout from the joints (not an easy job, there are tools on the market for doing this) and replacing with a darker grout. Hope this helps. Regards Mark

Hi, Yonsur only option for the job to be done successfully will be to remove the grout in between the tiles and replace with new grout, the colour of your choice. As for grout residue this will always happen due to cleaning off excess grout for best results you can always buy a grout residue remover from any local diy store like B&Q, tops tiles, wickes etc. Regards, Larry Plumb plus installatio
