Replacing an old gas fire with flueless gas fire

Anonymous user 5 November 2015 - 3.54 PM

I have moved into a property with an older gas fire which is attached to a pipe through the exterior wall behind it. As I have no chimney, I have been looking to replace it with a modern flueless gas fire. I have seen lots of adverts for flueless inset fires but as I just want it to sit against the wall I was wondering if there was a method of attaching these fires to the wall and using the existing ventilation method, or would I have to resort to a wall mounted fire instead or change to an electric one. I am totally confused.

Flueless fires DO require permanent ventilation to comply with regulations and to ensure the safe operation for the appliance and to provide air for the combustion process (crucial for preventing the appliance from creating CO) flueless fires by their very nature vent fumes back into the room so it is imperative they are installed properly and with the correct ventilation and serviced yearly. The manufacturers instructions should have guidance on the siting of the vent but generally a minimum distance of 1m from the appliance is required as well as a vent with a free area of 100cm2.

HI permanent ventilation is not require for flue less fires and their are fires that can be fixed to wall and free standing ones but do have it fitted by a gas safe registered engineer who would install to manufacturers instructions DAVE
