Do you need to repoint ridges

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.38 PM

Hi, My girlfriend and I are buying a house and the survey has indicated that some repointing is requiredfor the ridge. What does this mean, do we need to get it done, is this cosmetic only? Thanks Scott

Hi Scott If the mortor pointing has become porus or missing then there is a possibility of water ingress running under the tiles and into your property. You need to remove the ridge tiles clean off the old mortor bed and relay on new mortor. Regards Mike Cleverley

Hi , prevention is cheaper than cure most certainly in this case ...pointing the bed of the ridges may prevent water ingress and bigger problems occurring, however if the ridges are still firmly situated it may create more damage to your roof by having ridges removed unnecessarily.....always best to have an expert give a full inspection prior to quotation of works needing carried out.
