Uneven floorboards
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.45 PM
I have an 1870s house and the upstairs bedroom floor appears to have sunk in places, particularly in the middle of the room. There is a considerable gap between the floor boards and the skirting boards and in places it is as big as about an inch. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Many thanks in advance!

Hi Stephanie, your floor boards dipping creating a gap between the bottom of the skirting and floor could be several issues! The most likely and common for the age of your property is to be the joists may be rotten or suffering from woodworm! It is likely that where they sit in the wall has caused them to drop slightly - they need looking at and possibly strengthening or replacing in part. Daron CAL Builders

You need to investigate this urgently, it could well be woodworm and if so could cause severe problems if not treated , call in your local builder or post a job on my workman so you can have it checked out.
