Ok there is an small extension roof I would like to change myself from perspex to natural slate. The length of the roof is just under 5 metres and about 2.5 in width, I will put a velux window in the middle of the roof. I need to know what grade timber and what size timber to use please? I can put in cross section from from one side of wall to other to support it if i need to? Any ideas
Hi, you could dispense with the cross section of timber and make all your rafter's C24 construction grade timber in a size of say, 175x47 mm. This would be sufficient in strength for the roof you describe. If you can work out exactly where your rooflight is going to be situated, then you should double up the rafters that traverse either side of the opening (if you want to meet building regs). I hope this helps, regards Sean.
