Customer of Taylor Made Lofts
Rating: 1 out of 5
Loft conversion to gable end roof.
Mr Taylor began a loft conversion in October 2012. We were assured that work would be completed by 14th December. We followed a weekly schedule of payments. Work began well, promptly and, we were led to believe, to an adequate standard. Work was not completed by the 14th; however we did make the final payment. After this Mr Taylor did not appear as regularly for work and work slowed and he always had plausible excuses for his absence or delays. The fibre glass roof had been leaking since it had been put on but we were told not to worry. After another 8 ½ weeks with no repair to the leaking roof, we invited our building inspector to make an assessment. He identified a number of areas inside that did not meet building regulation standards. The most serious was the stair strings (joins) were not secured properly. The building inspector felt the flat roof had neither been built nor covered appropriately. He noted an inadequate slope to the roof and that the fibre glass had not been put on to a professional standard. There were also other problem areas to the outside and the roof. The findings of the building inspector were confirmed by four independent builders. We employed another builder to make the repairs and now intend to pursue Mr Taylor through the small claims court for reimbursement. Mr Taylor has promised to pay but we have received no money despite the fact that Mr Taylor has been aware of the cost to us since March 2013. He has provided reasons why he has not paid.
