Plastering

What's the best way to smooth over an artex finish?

My small box room has an artex type finish to it - not sure if the pattern is done with plaster or artex - i want the walls to be smooth - whats the best way to do it?

Hello there,
The best way would be to get 3 or 4 quotes from plasterers as it is not an easy task to take on yourself. They will advise you on the best methode to this which will result in a finish product of a smooth surface ready for you just to paint over.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Robert

Hi there
The best way to skim over,is to scrape off high points with a blade scraper ,check that there is not asbestos in the artex, then unibond, bond and set,you may get away with a heavy coat of multi if it is not to proud .It is a job for a plasterer unless you are competent with a trowel ,what you also have to take into consideration is cracking as the artex was put there for a purpose
