Oil fired radiator plug getting hot

Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 3.32 PM

Have run 2.5mm² cable from double regular socket and created a single socket for the radiator, the plug of which is getting hot. I need to be able to move the radiator to other locations, so (if I am understanding correctly), using a fused spurr socket would not allow me to do this, as it would be in a permanent position. Further reading advises I need to come off the spurr to the socket, but don't understand what this means. Any advice you are able to give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The way you have described this makes it difficult to understand. Running a cable from an existing double socket to a single socket is a spur but you also mention a fused spur socket which I think you mean fused spur, this would indeed feed fixed equipment. Also to complicate matters a single socket can be fed directly from an existing double socket (just cable no fused spur) but more than one would require the fused spur that you refer to in your question. Maybe you can repost what you are trying to do given the above info. Hope the above helps

Of course it will be hot, because the radiator is supposed to be a separate circuit breaker. Also, it depends on the kilowatts of the radiator, then you can use the size of cable that you are going to use. I hope i have answered your question.
