Bathroom Fitting

Blocking up bathroom window

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.47 PM

Can I ask you a question about our bathroom (wetroom). One of our smaller windows was boarded up to fit our shower Well I’m now worried about moisture in between the tiles and the window. The bathroom fitter knew a builder who advised to board it up rather than block/ brick it up because of how it might look externally (I now realise, this would have probably been fine). Anyway, I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of googling and some people posting concerns about damp. I’ve gone back to look at pictures sent to me by the bathroom fitter. He has used jackoboard and created a wet room. I have read that this is good for water proofing and insulating. Our tiles sit directly onto this. Is this fine, or we likely to encounter problems down the line? I’m just thinking of when we come to sell it in the future, but also don’t want any damp issues after putting in a new bathroom.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The only problem I can see you having is if the glass fail and mists up inside , you’ll be able to see it from outside but won’t be able to change it. Damp shouldn’t be too much of an issue as long as the window has a vent on it Without seeing it I can’t be sure. Hope this helps

Should be ok. If there is insulation behind the boarding and there is a gap of minimum 20 mm between the insulation and the window this should stop any condensation. If the window is double glazed then you probably will not need to worry about the 20mm gap. Either way I would not worry about the gap.
