Disturbed the artex in my kitchen

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.54 PM

Hello all, I was removing wall paper and disturbed artex in the archway to my kitchen. Artex that has a high chance of containing asbestos. The wall paper was painted and the edges overlapped with the artex. So essentially the artex was scraped and bits broke off and at the time I wasn't wearing a mask... I now have small amounts of unsealed artex. Can anyone advise on what I can do about this and how dangerous it is? Would painting the edges make it safe again?

Good morning first of all before you touching the asbestos to vear full protection face masc googles and protective clothing. Next step is to call a company who is expert to remove asbestos and when the surface has been cleaned professionally than to start any kind of repair

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the amount you are talking about generally aspestos can safely be painted over or plastered over it only becomes unsafe if you were to try to scrape it off your ceiling or cut holes in it for downlighting etc

It’s not garunteed that the ceiling has asbestos in, if it’s just a small peice that has come away I wouldn’t worry about it,dispose of it correctly and if you are planning on doing anymore work on the ceiling ide recommend getting a professional in but to be honest I wouldn’t worry, I’ve been dealing with artex for over 30 years (sensibly) and come to no harm.
