How long for already cured concrete to dry following roof leak?

Anonymous user 19 February 2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi I have had a dpm membrane that was covering my concrete floor whilst other works were going on in my kitchen. We had a roof leak and it was raining. The rain was falling on the dpm that was covering the concrete. I wanted to know the following: 1. Is there a way to dry the area up quickly say in 24-48hrs? 2. Can we mix SBR and neat cement into a liquid paint and coat the floor to speed the drying process? 3. How long would you recommend for this area to dry before we tile etc? Ideally I want to get this done before next Wednesday as my kitchen arrives the following week.

Hi, I would invest in some space heaters and they should make quick work of it but move them around the room every few hours to evenly dry the floor you will see the colour difference in where's getting the heat.

Hey there, Dealing with water on a concrete floor can be a bit tricky, especially when you're on a tight schedule. Here's some guidance: 1. **Quick Drying**: - To dry the area quickly, use industrial dehumidifiers and fans. This can significantly speed up the drying process. - Ensure good ventilation in the area. If weather permits, open windows and doors to create airflow. 2. **SBR and Cement Mixture**: - Mixing SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) with neat cement can create a waterproof coating. However, this won't necessarily speed up the drying of the concrete itself. - This mixture is more about sealing the surface and should be applied only when the concrete is dry. 3. **Recommended Drying Time**: - Concrete drying times can vary depending on thickness, temperature, and humidity levels. Generally, a minimum of 48-72 hours with dehumidification is advisable. - Before tiling, it's crucial to ensure the concrete moisture content is low enough. Professional builders use moisture meters to check this. Given your tight schedule with the kitchen installation, I recommend using dehumidifiers and fans immediately to start the drying process.
