Would be grateful for any advice at all. Old unused chimney (flaunched and with terracotta cowl) despite many repairs still leaking from roofline onto chimney section where it comes in from the roof. Not sure if cowl responsible/tiles/or flashing. Anyway, thought best to remove stack from roofline to get rid of problem. This will leave an open section in the loft, the flu goes down into an unused bricked hearth (which has one vent for moisture to escape). QUESTION: Should this open section in the loft be covered/capped off THANK YOU TO ADR your concise answer very much appreciated:) or can it be left open? Worried might be problems with old build up materials coming out and/or moisture still coming up from the vent in the hearth.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
