How do I stop the draft from my skylight?

Anonymous user 20 February 2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi There are 4 round vents in my skylight (see picture here -> https://photos.app.goo.gl/9DvNC5ryFGnus2zt5) How do I block these off as there's a cold draft coming through on a cold day. There's nothing to block them inside and out. Thanks

Hi I wouldn't recommend capping them off completely. There are some other alternatives to reduce the size of the holes in the vents. Check the sizes before you order to make sure you get the right ones. These are just an example.https://www.amazon.co.uk/INCREWAY-Stainless-Circular-Wardrobe-Bookcase/dp/B08QCJXTCL/ref=asc_df_B08QD34SHW/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=499398303979&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4512265773700808643&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045075&hvtargid=pla-1184217673669&psc=1&mcid=2f73945398483a57aa83b06d2422ddc7&th=1

To stop the draft from your skylight vents, you can try using removable weatherstripping or sealant around the edges of the vents. Another option is to use insulating film, which can be applied to the interior of the skylight to create a barrier against drafts. Additionally, you may consider using draft stoppers or draft snakes placed along the base of the skylight frame to prevent cold air from entering. Experiment with these solutions to find the most effective one for your specific situation.

Hi, Whilst I agree with the answer above please ensure if there are any gas appliances in the room for example a cooker or space heater you get a competent engineer to check the ventilation requirements before blocking it off
