Noisy pipes following pipe work

Anonymous user 10 March 2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi, have recently had some pipes moved around in bathroom for a refit. When stop valve turned on, water didn't come for about 30secs, and when it did the pipes were noisy and pressure lower than usual. Plumber said stop valve faulty, been replaced and pressure much improved. Yet pipes are still noisy, sounds like whooshing/screeching (struggling to explain the sound). Any advice? Possibly air in system?

If you have recently had a stop cock replaced, ensure that it is fitted the correct way round. There is normally an arrow showing you the direction of flow. fully open stop cock (anticlockwise) then go back one turn (stops cock seizing). Check pipes are correctly secured as vibration is sometimes responsible for noise. ensure that your shut-off valves are fully open as that can also lead to noisy flow.
