Sockets not working

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.08 PM

Evening guys, an extension wire sparked and popped, since then 6 sockets downstairs aren't working. Trip switches facing the right direction, tried manually shutting them off & putting them on, individually and with the master switch, & by pressing the test button on both the things in the fuse box, what am I doing here to get these working again Got an election on the way to diagnose the problem this afternoon 👍

Ideally get a qualified approved electrician to investigate the fault. You mention sparked and popped, so most likely there is a fault on the circuit.

It sounds like a wire has fallen out of a connection on the sockets. Ring socket circuits are generally wired in a loop. Follow the working sockets around unit you find the first socket not working, this will most likely be where the ring has broken. This should be done by a competent person with correct tools for working safely.

Which end of the extension lead sparked? Was it the extension lead outlet? Sounds like you have an RCD that needs to be reset before it will turn back on. Memera 2000 range consumer units do this…
