Collapsed rest bend on internal soil stack??

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.54 PM

Over the weekend, a drainage engineer inspected what we thought was a blocked soil stack and has told us the clay rest bend has collapsed, leaving all the waste escaping into the cavity of the wall in which the wastepipe is housed. Clearly, this is a job for an expert but I wondered if anybody had an idea of timeframe or the scale of work needed to fix this? We are currently unable to use the bathroom or toilet. For information, it looks as though the walls are breeze block and the floor is concrete. Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This will depend on the depth and location and direction of the clay bend, the job should be relatively straightforward, however a large amount of excavation and digging will be required, I would estimate the job taking around 2 days at a cost of around 700-900 pounds to repair. Again depending on excavation time scales and repair pipework

Hi Victoria, This will vary on the type of ground that needs digging through, and what the surrounding work area is. (Is it inside the house boxed in or an external soil stack on the outside wall?) Usually around a 2 day job. It might be possible that if its not a full collapse, we are able to line the pipe. This involves inverting a material liner which is impregnated with a resin. Once hardens becomes like fibre glass with similar properties to that of a new PVC pipe

You could pending how bad it is get a specialist to put a liner in but this would need to be checked.failing this it is quite an involved task and also you would need to account for making good of the area which is disturbed to make the repair.
