Bathroom Fitting

Bathroom tiles - which materials ?

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.46 PM

Hello Recently we had a small leak in our kitchen and it was due to the shower above On inspection there were gaps between the shower floor tray and tile ls but also general tile gaps (in the corner) Is it best to seal these gaps with sealant , I have tried caulk/grout before and it generally will break off with movement so is sealant better for the gap between tiles? I know some may suggest to remove the tiles and start over bit it's the effort and drying time etc We have our whole bathroom tiles in one design and this also includes within the shower space so hesitant to change it all up

Depending on the width of the joints, a special elastic sealant must be used

You will need to use a sanitary sealant to fill the gap. Unfortunately if there is movement in the shower tray which has caused the gap to get larger over time then the long term fix would be to remove the tray and bed it properly to avoid any sealant from splitting away again and causing a leak.
