Help, what is this?

Anonymous user 14 March 2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi, I’ve noticed the joins on a small section of my wood floor have turned black and have what look like a white powder coming through. Can any one advise what this is so I can look to get it fixed? I have pictures but won’t let me upload. Thanks, Katie

Hi Katie, it sounds like you might be dealing with a moisture issue in your wood floor, which can lead to mold or mildew growth. The black discoloration and white powder could be signs of mold or efflorescence. It's best to consult with a professional flooring expert to assess the situation in person and determine the best course of action for repair or remediation. They can provide guidance on how to address the issue and prevent it from happening again.

Hi Katie, Yes, it sounds like there might be a damp issue under the floor somewhere. You may need to get a professional wood floor expert in to lift some boards to see if there is an issue and what could be done about it.
