Tiling

Timing on T&G chipboard

Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 2.51 PM

I have just raised and levelled a new kitchen floor which is T&G 22mm Chipboard glue and screwed down and it is quite solid. I stupidly got it to the level I needed so when I put the adhesive and Til down it will be flush with the door levels. Now reading up it says T&G is not ideal to tile on so wondering what my options are as in can I tile direct on it or do I need to put something on the T&G

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As above, hardy backer board screwed at manufactures recommended intervals. This will go over old floor boards no problem so a new floor should be fine. Advised by a tiler on another job!

Yes you can tile straight onto t&g chipboard flooring, but you would always be better/safer using a flexi adhesive for the tiles

i would use durabase anti fracture matting, its stuck down with flexible floor tile adhesive, but make sure the mix is quite sloppy so it adheres to the matting well. this will mitigate any movement in the wooden floor stop any grout joints cracking in the future and stop any tiles ever popping in high traffic areas which kitchens are. Make sure you put SBR down on the chipboard floor 1st 4/1 mix water to SBR.
