Outdoor PIR Light suddenly not turning off

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 2.42 PM

Hi All, I purchased a new light (as the old one we had would no longer turn on at all (I reckon the internals were shafted) and fitted (with PIR sensor) on Tuesday. I made sure that it wasn't set in permanent mode (left switch off for ages then back on) and the light went off after a short period. Between then and now it's worked fine, until I just went to check. It hasn't gone off in the last 3 hours! As it was working absolutely fine I can only assume that the rather awful weather we've had has hit it hard (we have 3 other external lights which are all original - over 10 years old) and caused water damage or temp damage to the PIR sensor. The light comes on, but will not go off at all. Any ideas at all? I had somebody tell me I had wired it up wrong, however it worked fine up until today! The light I purchased was as follows: It seems to say it's IP44 Splash Proof....however I believe that the rain might have been too much for the sensor. I've turned it off at the board until tomorrow when hopefully it's dried out, and will see if the sensor kicks in again. Just after some ideas really....and somebody to tell me it's not me and it's this damn light! http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/lighting/outdoor-lighting/security_lights/-specificproducttype-motion_sensor_lights/Larsen-LED-Security-Light-12508642?skuId=13029347

Sounds like a faulty sensor. Possibly as its a cheap chinese made light fitting? Would recommend a Steinel Xled 25 PIR LED fitting which are very reliable. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Lighting_External_Index/Lighting_Floodlight_Index/Security_Lighting_Index/Security_Lighting_2/index.html#STXLED10

make sure that the light is not pointing down directly on the pir as this will heat the sensor and it will not switch off, regards Terry.
