LVT and electric underfloor heating

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.07 PM

I am looking into having electric underfloor heating and Amtico/Karndean flooring installed with a soundproofing layer. This is for a 2 bed flat built in 1990 with carpet currently. What do I need to consider? Any advice would be welcomed at this early stage of my project

it would work well as long as you had a layer of screed/sand and cement under the finished floor covering

Depending on your sub-floor. Wooden floor, I'm guessing? Depending on state of sub-floor, a 6mm ply is possible but 9mm or even 12mm would be more sound proofing. Flooring grade ply wood isn't cheap these days! The latex you choose, generally a flexible latex like Tilemaster LevelFlex, will have a primer to go with it. Prime the ply, then the electric heating can be installed to the ply and then you latex over the heating element for a smooth finish. Then your Amtico or other luxury vinyl tiles can be installed. All these products together will lower the dB impact both airborne and impact. Hope this helps. Kind regards Andrew

It’s important that the correct screed is used and then primed and then using an adhesive that is suitable for underfloor heating. F ball adhesives and screeds are available to view on line and in my opinion are the best products

also the screed will need to be min 10mm deep other wise the ufh will shadow through and damage the new lvt. i would recommend you get a good professional flooring installer in to do this otherwise it could cost you .
