Wood and wall paint
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.52 PM
I need to paint my internal door frames and doors. I understand satin would be best, especially for my small hallway, however, I'm not sure which brand to use. (will be priming door frames with Ronseal knot block first due to knots now showing through the paint). Also which brand to use for painting the walls in my hallway. I find Dulux very runny. Would value your expert advice. Thanks

there is a significant difference between trade and the retail paint sold in places like B&Q.
go to your local decorating centre, I personally use Johnstone's. they will be able to guide you.
if the frames have been previously painted, and knots are yellowing, I'd suggest two coats of Zinsser Bin, then continue with your top coats.
Johnstone's aqua guard is a really good water base satin. they also sell a cleanable matt, I'd recommend that for your walls. both products very durable.
Good luck

Painting your internal door frames and doors is a great way to freshen up your space! Satin finish is indeed a good choice, especially for a small hallway, as it offers durability and is easy to clean. Let's talk about brands and priming.
For your door frames and doors, a few reliable brands in the UK are Dulux Trade, Crown Trade, and Johnstone's Trade. These brands are known for their quality and reliability, making them popular among both professionals and homeowners like yourself. They offer a range of satin finishes that will provide a smooth and long-lasting result.
To address the issue of knots showing through the paint on your door frames, using Ronseal Knot Block primer is a smart move. This primer helps seal the knots and prevents them from bleeding through the paint, ensuring a clean and professional finish.
Now, for painting the walls in your hallway, if you find Dulux paints to be too runny, you may want to consider other options that provide a thicker consistency for easier application. Two UK brands worth exploring are Farrow & Ball and Little Greene. These brands offer premium paints with rich pigments and are known for their quality and ease of use.
When making your final decision, it's a good idea to visit a local paint store and seek advice from professionals. They can guide you further based on your specific requirements and help you choose the right products for your hallway.
Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for preparation, application, and drying times to achieve the best results. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions. Good luck with your painting project!
