We have solid concrete floors that were pretty level but old and cracked in places and we laid click fit laminate flooring when we first moved in 20 yrs ago on top of thick blue plastic sheeting, which at the time was described as insulation sheeting. The laminate flooring is still in good condition apart from a couple of small nicks/dents that are easily hidden with a similar coloured wax crayon but we want a change. Could we lay lino over the top without creating a mold/damp problem? We have noticed over the years that certain items (my childs wooden doll's house base) did get damp/black mildew on it, if you left it in one spot on the floor for a length of time but our wooden Ikea tv unit (probably made of mdf) which has always sat on the laminated floor, has always been fine. The laminate floor would provide a good level base whereas I think the original concrete floor would probably need smoothing/levelling. To lay on top of the laminate would save a lot of time, mess and work and would it not just be the same effect as laying hardboard base that lino is usually laid on? Would it be better to first sand the shiny top surface of the laminate floor first to make it more like a hardboard material???
