Tiling

My tiles won’t come off, help

Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 2.50 PM

We’ve been (trying) to removing our bathroom tiles, the ugly white square ceramic ones. We’ve been doing it for 2 weeks now and only taken off 6 tiles. The tile adhesive is so thick, you can’t get a chisel into the back of it, I’ve hit it with a hammer- nothing, used a bolster bit, nothing, I’ve tried everything suggested but nothings worked. There’s 3 whole walls of tiles. Top and bottom of the bath & one whole wall on the side. We’ve started at the head end of the bath & managed 6 tiles so far. Is there anything else I can try? Like I said there’s no starting point, none of the first row you can get to from behind, they are coming of in little chips, I don’t know what else to do. Please help

Sounds like they are the old “sand and cement fix” which was the way my father and grandfather stuck …. Can be a pig to remove.. As suggested SDS hammer drill with Spade bit should work. GW.

All problems should be addressed before applying any rendering system. The company will only guarantee their products, not the person using it.

As suggested, goto your local hire shop and hire a Hilti chipper or SDS hammer action drill, it should come with a spade bit which is angled to help manoeuvre nicely behind the tiles, they will fly off.

Smash a hole with a hammer and chisel and then get them off with a small kangol jackhammer you may be cheaper hiring one of these

Use SDS Hammer Drill , It's noisy and dusty but It's working. After remove all tiles, steel have some adhesive left on Wall use a small water pump to get Wall wet and after remove the adhesive.
