Backbox covered with plaster post first fix
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM
Hi, just had some plastering done after first fix of a full rewire. Some of the backboxes are almost completely covered in plaster with only a small opening. None allow the sparky full access to the backbox. Is this normal practice? I'm not sure what action to take, ask plasterer to come and fix it or perhaps get a sharp chizzle and try sort myself ahead of electrician coming back for second fix. Thanks for any advice

Hi no that is not normal practice we would never leave are sockets full of plaster ,every plasterer should clean out their sockets they should come back and clean them out but depends if you can be bothered with the hassle of getting them back, I wouldn't use a chisel incase you hit the wires and cut them maybe tap them with a hammer or use a scraper they will clean out but they should not of left them filled up like that

It’s not good practice for a plasterer to leave socket boxes full of plaster, it’s just lazy on the plasterer’s behalf but not uncommon . You can clean the the plaster out yourself but it’s better to ask the electrician to do it although it’s in his right to say no . I doubt you’ll get a spread to come back to do it . At least you’ll know not to use him again.

Plasterer should have cleaned out the boxes but ask yourself this did the sparky clean up anything I bet not far to important for that isn't he you got 30 years worth of good plastering work and your worried about a couple of back boxes you or the sparks have to clean out, get a life m8.
