Wood strength and type for mounting onto solid wall

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.06 PM

I want to install some wood battens onto a solid wall so that 1000mm x 900 wall storage units can be mounted onto it. Which wood strength and type (pine, oak etc) and fixings should are best used for this job?

HI The issue here is not the strength of the wood, any wood would be fine in this instance (Even MDF) thi issue is with the fixing on the wall as long as you have a solid wall standard wall plugs from wral fischer or any other brand should suffice. make sure that your fixings are reasonable and evenly spaced across the batten ~400-600mm apart and the use of a construction adhesive (grip-fill Sticks like S*** or any other brands)although not essential would give you piece of mind.

Any type of construction timber will do. But make sure the battens are securely fixed. What is the substrate? What kind of wall, brick or breeze block or plasterboard? If plaster board, try to get fixings into the studwork, and use proper plasterboard fixings.
